Am I missing something? I can't see any mention in the docs or the BOM of the need for an air pump but since the build only includes a "vacuum generator" which seems to convert incoming pressurised air to vacuum, as well as a solenoid manifold, I'm assuming that an external source of air is required. What are the specs for this? Is an aquarium diaphragm pump suitable? If so, what kind? Or is something else more "industrial" required? Or is no pump needed at all?

Thanks Petar, that makes sense. I do think it’s probably not a bad idea to mention somewhere that it’s necessary. I’m not super new to robotics but I’ve not dealt with vacuum/pneumatics much before so it was just a bit confusing.

You need a compressor for this. It is not in the BOM since its kinda equipment so its assumed if you are using pneumatics that you have it.
We had goog luck with these small type compressors:
